Project EV Powers Blackpool Garage with the UK’s Fastest EV Charging Stations

Electric vehicle (EV) charge point provider Project EV has partnered with installation company Helix Renewable Energy Services to roll out the UK’s first ‘hyper-speed’ EV charging solution.

After revealing its electrification plans earlier this year, the Park Garage Group appointed Helix Renewable Energy Services to carry out its first rollout of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at one of its 77 branches. Thanks to a robust power supply, the site was able to install Project EV’s latest DC charging solution, capable of recharging a vehicle in just 15 minutes.

In total, three 480kW EV charging stations were installed at the Park Garage Group’s Blackpool branch, enabling up to six vehicles to recharge simultaneously. These hyper-speed chargers feature a contactless payment terminal and a user-friendly back-office management system that allows drivers to monitor charging sessions via smartphone.

To complement the new EV charging infrastructure, the Park & Shop garage also offers a spacious seating area, along with a Greggs and Starbucks. Perfect for EV drivers as they wait for their vehicles to recharge. The site is anticipated to attract significant attention from locals, tourists visiting the seaside town, and motorists travelling on the M55.

The installation of the new hyper-speed 480kW charging stations marks an exciting breakthrough for the EV industry and a significant enhancement to the UK’s public charging infrastructure. This cutting-edge technology represents a key step forward in supporting the growing demand for electric vehicles, ensuring faster, more efficient charging for drivers nationwide.

Richard Pink, Chief Technical Officer at Project EV said “For the past several months, Project EV has been collaborating with Helix Renewables and their client, Park Garage Group, to provide expert guidance on the optimal EV charging solution that aligns with their business needs and future expansion plans. We recognised the importance of helping them stand out in a competitive market, which is why we developed our new 480kW hyper-speed charger. This innovative charger can simultaneously deliver 240kW to two vehicles, ensuring faster, more efficient public charging. Moreover, it’s designed to accommodate the future of electric vehicles with advanced charging capabilities.”

Freshstream Invests in Project Better Energy

Project Better Energy is excited to announce its recent investment from Freshstream, a private equity firm that invests in growing businesses based in Western Europe.

Project Better Energy is the 6th investment in Freshstream’s first independent fund, which closed earlier this year having raised €762 million. We join other portfolio companies DeterTech, Bella Figura Music, Big Motoring World, Nafinco and MCR, which are all entrepreneurial and founder led businesses.

Project Better Energy was founded in 2011 by Chief Executive Officer Simon Peat, an electrical engineer who spotted an opening in the residential solar market. Since then, our company has expanded its product range to include off-peak power storage, electric vehicle chargers, air-sourced hot water cylinders and infrared heaters, providing a diversified range of green solutions across both the residential and commercial property sectors.

As a business we have experienced significant growth over the last 12 years and have become one of the leading players in the domestic renewable energy sector in the UK, with nearly 40,000 solar energy systems sold and installed through our Project Solar UK division, and sold approximately 80,000 electric vehicle chargers across the residential, commercial and public sectors with Project EV.

With this substantial growth of Project Better Energy it is the perfect time to receive an investment to push our company to the next level! With the support from Freshstream, we can continue to lead the business through an accelerated phase of growth – expanding our product range and customer footprint.

Our CEO, Simon Peat, commented:

“We are thrilled to be teaming up with Freshstream and look forward to working together as we continue our ambitious growth strategy. Their expertise and investment will enable us to further accelerate our expansion plans, both organically and through acquisitions.”

Gilles Gradassi, Director at Freshstream, said:

“Following a series of legislative and policy commitments by governments in recent months and years to mitigate the impact of global climate change, there has never been a more important time to invest in solutions aimed at expanding clean power availability and energy efficiency.

Project Better Energy is one of the most exciting players in the UK green solutions market and the investment in the business demonstrates our commitment to supporting innovative, entrepreneurial companies solving complex issues, including the decarbonisation of the economy.

Reaching net zero will not be achievable without private capital investment and we are confident that Simon will continue to find innovative, cost-effective solutions to support consumers, businesses and local authorities through the energy transition and make a real difference.”
